The incidents took place in New Haven County on Tuesday, May 24, and Wednesday, May 25, in Milford.

Milford Police first became aware of the teen after receiving a call around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, reporting at a juvenile was walking in the area of Harrison Avenue carrying a "Tommy" gun with a round magazine, said Officer Marilisa Anania, of the Milford Police.

Officers responded and checked the area but were unable to locate anyone, police said.

At about 12:50 p.m. on Wednesday, a school resource officer at Jonathan Law High School was alerted by the school that they just found out of a suspicious incident that had occurred around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, involving a juvenile on school property that was carrying what looked like a paintball or airsoft gun, Anania said.

The officer reviewed the surveillance video and saw the juvenile known to the officer as a former student walk around the school, by the baseball fields, and behind the building carrying what looked like a long firearm with a circular drum that appeared to be some type of airsoft gun, Anania added.

Several hours later, officers were called to Silver Sands Beach on the report of a young male wearing a black shirt waiving a gun around near the beach, Anania said.

Officers located the teen walking on the beach near E Broadway with the gun raised over his head with his arm extended and his finger on the trigger, police said.

Additional officers arrived on the scene and ordered the teen to drop the weapon and get on the ground, which he did.

The juvenile was then taken into custody without further incident, Anania said.

The weapon was seized and determined to be a gel blaster gun that shoots gel pellets, she added.

The unidentified teen was charged with breach of peace and carrying a dangerous weapon and issued a juvenile summons. He was also issued a summons for weapons on school property.
